HEA Research Seminar / Webinar Series: The impact of the shifting UK HE landscape on learning and teaching
15 November 2012, 12.00 to 13.45
HEA offices in York or free online live streaming
Abstract of presentation
‘Whilst there has been a lot of discussion of the potential impact of the Government's higher education reforms on funding, students, widening participation and institutional configuration, there has so far been little discussion of the implications for student learning. This seminar aims to begin to fill this gap. I shall argue that the White Paper reforms are the latest, but also potentially the most radical, of a series of market-based changes going back to the early 1980s. I shall review what we know about the effects of these changes for the quality of student education. Finally I shall highlight some of the issues that now arise for anyone concerned with high quality student learning.’
