This volume contains an edition of the poetry of Casnodyn, a poet who sang in the first half of the fourteenth century and one of the most important poets of the later Gogynfeirdd . He originated from Kilvey near Swansea, and he sang in Glamorgan, Ceredigion and western Gwynedd. Twelve of his poems have survived, including praise poems, elegies, love poems, satire and religious poetry. Although he was traditional and conservative by inclination, there are certain new elements to be seen in his work which anticipate the love poetry of the early Cywyddwyr . In his intricate and consistent use of cynghanedd he played an important part in the early development of strict cynghanedd .
